“Tiger Lily, She’s All Grown Up Now!”
Sporting a cheeky grin and braces, Tiger is looking more like a teen every day. Showing a maturity beyond her years, Michael Hutchence’s daughter Tiger Lily hugged the man she calls ‘Dad’ as he tearfully farewelled his own father last week.
Tiger, 14, stood faithfully by the side of her adoptive father, Bob Geldof, taking her place among the ranks of family mourners at the Dublin memorial for 96-year-old Bob Snr. When her half-sisters Fifi, 27, Peaches, 21, and Pixie, 19, needed comfort during their grandfather’s funeral procession, it was tiny Tiger they wrapped their arms around. There was no mention of Tiger’s own deep, personal losses, but the reminder was there for all to see - the pretty girl’s dark eyes and sharp cheekbones make her the very image of her Aussie dad, INXS frontman Michael, who died in November 1997. Tiger joined the Geldof clan when her mother Paula, Bob’s ex-wife, died three years later.
Tiger has little contact with the Hutchence family and did not attend the funeral of her paternal grandad, Kell Hutchence in 2002. Yet a friend of Bob’s tells New Idea that Tiger is extremely well-adjusted despite her losses. ‘She’s smart and charming, and has real joie de vivre,’ the friend says. ‘She loves her half-sisters, but I don’t think she’ll turn out like them. She thinks Peaches is a bit crazy, but she’s very fond of Fifi and Pixie. Tiger also has a really good relationship with Bob and Jeanne [his partner].’
Irish media reports say the funeral of Bob Snr. Was more a celebration of the larrikin restaurateur’s life than a solemn occasion. In his eulogy, Bob joked: ‘There are more people in this church than come to one of my f****** gigs!’.
