Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke! As Oasis humiliated MH in 1996 when they said infront of all MH's musical peers at the Brits 'Why is a has-been presenting to the gonnabes?'
MH was very hurt and upset by this. As Danny Saber said he was in the studio the next day with MH working on MH's solo album. And he joked hello has-been...and he could tell by MH's reaction he was deeply hurt by the comments.
MH was a very shy person offstage, nothing like he was onstage, so to be embarassed in front of everyone at the Brit awards, I believe contributed to the start of MH's downward spiral of depression. Things like this can effect people very deeply when they are shy, as they care about what other people think of them. Just as all the UK tabloid press got to MH.
MH responded the following year by singing "I'm better than Oasis" into the backing vocals on the INXS song 'Elegantly Wasted'.
MH didnt actually hate Oasis's music though, which is another reason why the comments hurt him.
It's good to see Liam being embarassed at the Brits though...Hutch would have loved it!

Wow, what a complete asshole. I wasn't aware of the mean-spirited, hurtful comment that was made in 1996. Michael looked so happy to be presenting the award to them. People really should think before they speak.

Haha he is a knobhead... Who is he trying to be? Many other names are springing to mind right now....

170,000 people have now joined the facebook group in one day!

"Knobhead" doesn't sound harsh enough to me. LOL! Perhaps its more meaningful in the UK and OZ. We don't use that word in the US. I would have called him a pr*ck. Probably the same thing. LOL!
Actually wasn't it Noel that was the real pr*ck saying that Michael was a 'has been' when recieving a Brit award?

Haha yeah same thing Cathy..Knobhead is just British slang...translates to d*ckhead. Which is more likely what Aussies would call him!

Maybe he should have taken the class A drugs might have shut him up!!
I didn't know about the insult to Michael. Makes me sick to think he did that.Posted 1 year ago # -
The use of the term knob-head meant more in the UK, both in it's delivery, and because of who it was said by. comedian of the UK people, speaks the thoughts of the people :-)

Fuck you Gallagher brothers! Betcha Michael had vodka and tonic to celebrate this one! Yay Peter Kay!

In that video of Michael's presenting the award to Oasis, he really did seem happy that they had won.
But, those jackasses had to spoil it for him. At least, he didn't retaliate in any way. Michael acted with more class than they did. And he was no has been. If Michael were still alive, I believe he would still be out there performing, and doing it well. Who was Liam Gallagher to be rude to Michael, who, in my opinion had more talent in his two front teeth than the members of Oasis do in their whole bodies?
I did hear that, supposedly, Michael had been trash talking Oasis in the weeks before the awards. But, I don't believe that, and even if it were true, two wrongs don't make a right. What a jerk! And that's putting it nicely.
It's not true that Oasis act like jerks. IT'S NO ACT!

Here's an interesting thought: Has anyone seen the YouTube video of Michael and Helena Christensen's presenting Ray Charles with the Lifetime Achievement award at the World Music Video Awards in 1994?
I've watched that video several times, and I'm struck by the fact that Michael's speech about the award was very respectful towards Mr. Charles' legendary contributions to music.
Michael clearly appreciated Ray Charles as one who came before him and helped to pave the way.
If anyone wonders what this has to do with Liam Gallagher's rudeness at the Brit awards, I am thinking Mr. Jerk Gallagher should had been more respectful of Michael as another one who came before him and helped to pave his way.
Just like Michael respected Ray Charles and his legend as someone who made his own mark.
Just a thought, Mr. Jerk Gallagher, have some respect for those who came before you. And please activate your brain before engaging your mouth, especially in public!

Of course DW here it is :
And...about knob-head : WHAT GOES AROUND...COMES AROUND

Knob-head isn't worth a letter written about him and I will not waste my time for him.
Michael was A-Class for all of them.

Not only was he respectful, look at his body language. He reaches for Ray Charles and follows it through, and the embrace is heartfelt.

Michael certainly went out of his way to show his appreciation for Ray Charles and his contributions to music. Respectful and kind, that was definitely Michael. Liam Gallagher could have taken a few lessons from Michael on how to behave towards those who came before him, instead of being rude and disrespectful to Michael. Because, after all, Michael probably helped to pave the way for him. What right does Liam Gallagher to be so arrogant, anyway?
Oh, and there was certainly a mutual admiration society going between Ray and Michael. Which is more than I can say for Liam and Michael.

the Gallagher tantrum was something that was simmering between the 2 for some time, as has been commented by Bono - i.e. them Gallagher trying to provoke Michael into a fight in an Irish bar, where Michael, Bono and Liam were drinking. At the previous year Brit awards Liam's girlfriend (Patsy Kensit) was photographed with her hand down the front of Michael's leather trousers. It's belief was that the childish Gallagher considered his 'conquering' of Patsy as proof he was the new kid on the block, and Michael to be a 'has-been'.
The Gallaghers are considered morons here in the UK, but they keep knocking out hits here, and Oasis are without doubt (even disbanded) the biggest UK band there is. Their arrogance even today is continually fueled by their regrettable success :-( Humility comes from working hard, learning from others, and developing mutual respect, while alas Oasis were big here from their debut onwards, so humility will never come to the Gallaghers. My understanding is that Michael loved their debut album, and helped spread the word. He never expected them to have been fans of his work, but did expect them to have respect(indeed it took many years for Noel to come to terms with the fact U2 are a great band). The Gallaghers are a pari of shits and it's never going to change :-( I only regret that Michael never punched his lights out that night at the Brits, for the world to see, and/or produced another work to wipe the floor with them globally :-( Being the bigger man and not hitting out on this occasion was the wrong thing for Michael to do, cos the world would've loved to see a Gallagher knocked on his arse!Posted 7 months ago # -
I did not know that part of the story. Even so, there is NO excuse to act like a jerk. None.

I've posted this picture in "Photos of Hutch", however, from this pic I wouldn't say that she was encouraged by Michael at all, on the contrary he seems to be embarrassed.

I can't even bring myself to watch the Awards video for feeling so bad for Michael. I don't want to see him humiliated which he, obviously, didn't deserve. Liam's demise is inevitable. Knowing about Liam's behavior toward Michael, I'll be glad when it happens.
Is Noel slightly better than Liam as a human being? I understand he quit the band because he couldn't stand another second of Liam. Is Noel as much of an ass as his brother?
Not that Liam has any appreciation for this, but one never knows how his asinine, ridiculous, and completely insensitive remark affected Michael. Was it a contributing factor in Michael's slide into depression and despair which, obviously, occurred over a period of time? It couldn't have helped. I, for one, would never want to be involved in hurting a person like that in such a public forum. I love the saying (paraphrasing), "Be kind to everyone for you never know what a person is going through". Too bad Liam's the kind of person who doesn't care if he hurts anyone. When he gets his comeuppance, I'll be smiling.

I've only recently been reading a lot of material about Michael's life, but it seems that he was treated shabbily while he lived in London by not just Liam, but the tabloid press. Should I add Geldof in here as well? Was he ever civil toward Michael?
I've read that life in London really had Michael down. It seems like London was a big pressure cooker for him. It's a shame he was stuck there due to circumstances. I'd love to hear that it wasn't all gloom and doom for him during that period. I guess it would've been '95 - 97. Does anyone know if he experienced any high points whilst living in London? Of course, the birth of his daughter was a happy time. I wonder how long the honeymoon period of his relationship with Paula and becoming a father lasted. Obviously, I wish it could've lasted forever, but it wasn't meant to be. It seems like there was so much sturm and drang associated with that relationship from the get-go. Does anyone have a sense of whether Paula added to the drama or if she was a calming, assuring, and good force in Michael's life?
