I fell in love with INXS in 1987 as a 12 year old boy, and I remember the loss I felt when Michael Hutchence died and for years it's been really hard living in should have/could have land; you know 'if Michael had of lived INXS would have done this or where would they be today with him and what brilliant music we'd have. But I have finally accepted the reality that none of those things will ever happen because he is gone and has been for 14 years; and now I can just enjoy the 20 years of brilliant music he left us with INXS and enjoy it for what it was and will always be, because living in should have/could have land is an unhappy place to live. There is no doubt that INXS have never been the same since he died but how could they be? They have had to try their best to move on and be something new, and I personally believe the best thing they could have done was the Original Sin album because it finally drew a line in the sand between the Hutch years and being able to go in a completely new direction and create a new era of INXS that Tiny Summer and their new front man Ciaran Gribbin have signalled the start of. The Hutch era can never be bettered or equaled and even though I Get Up, Sugar and the Switch songs were good it all sounded like them trying to be the same band they used to be, and now finally they are moving on from that and I'm happy because they're not the same band; but they are still brilliant musicians and Andrew is still a fantastic songwriter and Ciaran is a very talented musician/songwriter in his own right and has a fantastic voice. I love Tiny Summer personally and I find it being so different from the Hutch era a good thing because it's a lot easier to seperate the old INXS with the new now; everything before Original Sin I would imagine Michael's voice singing because the songs sounded to close to the past and it made them harder to enjoy. My favorite INXS era will always be the original and it's always there for me to enjoy, but I love Original Sin and Tiny Summer and I'm happy that with all the uninspired production line music of today we still have INXS. I know some fans don't like Tiny Summer and wanted something that sounded like classic INXS, I personally don't want to hear the Kick X or any of the Hutch era rehashed because we already have that and it shouldn't be redone or continued because it belongs to Michael and who INXS was during those 20 years; it's time for them to start a whole new era which they're finally now doing and I commend them for it. I've stopped comparing this INXS to the original and now I can finally relax and enjoy both.
Let's just enjoy what Michael left us and move on

bangthedrum75, I agree with your sentiments completely. I just read a recent interview with Ciaran Gribbin. He's a very humble person, well aware of the privilege and incredible opportunity he's been given to write songs and perform with INXS. I also believe, in spite of their incredible talent, success, and longevity, that the original members of INXS also remain humble. As you say, the band's moving forward in the face of a 14-year long tragedy from which they'll never be able to separate themselves. Not that they necessarily want to. It's part of their band's history. Obviously, it's a very sad part. But, they can't change it. It can't be denied. What's to be done? They're musicians. They love what they do. They love to do it together. No one has the right to say they shouldn't. Your attitude is very mature. By accepting INXS in its new version, we're not dishonoring Michael. Michael's fans continue to grieve. His death makes no sense. In grief, we sometimes get the notion that moving forward means forgetting or leaving our dearly departed one behind. That's not the case. Michael will never be forgotten. Our love and admiration for him will never be diminished. But, life is for the living. INXS have every right to create and perform its music. Their listeners have the right and freedom to either like a song or not. But, INXS shouldn't be criticized for carrying on. When we lose someone we love, we learn we have to carry on. Life demands it. I wish INXS, Ciaran, and JD every success and happiness. They've given so much to their fans.
