Anyone watch the Grammy awards?
INXS (with Michael Hutchence) were nominated for 3 Grammy Awards, first in 1988 for the Kick album, and then in 1991 for Suicide Blonde...then 1993 for their 'Beautiful Girl' video clip...but unfortunately never won a Grammy.
I agree that is is a shame..INXS as a whole was such a great band..there are so many fans in the US..I guess the Grammy People just did not get it..;) Who were they up against in their time? I do not remember.
The US has screwed the pooch on recognizing this band. I apparently live in a bubble here in the US. In my bubble are INXS records (yep, that includes vinyl folks!) I had no idea until I got an the Internet after Michael's death that they hadn't always sold well or been recognized here for their work. They damn well deserved a grammy for several of their albums..but especially Kick. They also deserve to be in the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If bands that came up with INXS like the Chili Peppers and Metallica are in..INXS sure as hell better be. I get a little hot under the collar about this subject because I feel that it was hurtful to Michael and may have contributed to his depression.
The US often overlooks really exceptional bands. I, too, feel like I live in a bubble here in the States. I really don't get it. So many people in this country are only into typical/generic music. They just don't know what they are missing.
