‘What You Need’ features in the new movie ‘Take Me Home Tonight’

March 11th, 2011

View

'Take Me Home Tonight' is set in 1988 and follows the adventures of recent college graduate Matt, his twin sister Wendy and best friend Barry as they try to figure out what to do with their lives.  Matt persues his dream girl Tori at a wild Labor Day party by telling her he works for Goldman Sachs when he works at Suncoast video.

The soundtrack to the movie is a collection of 80's songs, including INXS's top 5 US hit single 'What You Need' (written by Andrew Farriss and Michael Hutchence).  Other songs include 'Hungry Like The Wolf' (Duran Duran), 'Kickstart My Heart' (Motley Crue), 'Safety Dance' (Men Without Hats), 'Come On Eileen' (Dexy's Midnight Runners), 'Let My Love Open The Door' (Pete Townsend), 'Bette Davis Eyes' (Kim Carnes), 'Video Killed The Radio Star' (The Buggles) and more!

The title comes from the Eddie Money song 'Take Me Home Tonight'.  Originally the film was to be titled Young Americans' and 'Kids In America' by David Bowie and Kim Wilde.

The film was written by the writers of 'That 70's Show', directed by Michael Dowse and stars Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Teresa Palmer, Dan Fogler and Michelle Trachtenberg.

Note: 'What You Need' features in the movie but is not included on the soundtrack cd.  'What You Need' is included in the film courtesy of Atlantic Recording Corp.  By Arrangement with Warner Music Group Film & TV Licensing and courtesy of Mercury Records Limited, under License from Universal Music Enterprises.

US President Obama is given iPod with Aussie music including 4 INXS songs with Michael Hutchence on lead vocals!

March 10th, 2011

President Barack Obama received a present from Australia's first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the end of her first official visit to the US.

Ms Gillard handed the President an iPod with a selection of Aussie music including the likes of Kylie Minogue, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, Powderfinger, Yothu Yindi, Nick Cave and more.

Four INXS tracks (featuring Michael Hutchence on lead vocals) were included – New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Need You Tonight and The Loved One.

There has already been a lot of debate about which classic Australian artists were left off the playlist such as John Farnham, Men At Work, Cold Chisel, The Triffids, Icehouse to name a few.

Hopefully President Obama enjoys listening to Michael singing while on his presidential road trips, or flying on Air Force One around the world!

APA Announces Representation Of Michael Hutchence’s Life Works

February 23rd, 2011

apalogo.jpg

February 22, 2011 (Beverly Hills, CA)   APA is pleased to announce the exclusive representation of the significant assets of Michael Hutchence's life works.  In conjunction with Michael's Trust (CIL), APA has been commissioned to spotlight various projects that highlight Michael's creative genius.  In this endeavor, APA (Keith Naisbitt & Jim Gosnell) will work in tandem with the management team of David Edwards from CIL, Martha Troup, Michael's former manager and David Byrnes at Law Firm – Ziffren Brittenham LLP.

Michael Hutchence was the enigmatic songwriter and lead singer of the world famous rock band INXS.  He was a global Rock Star, an Australian icon and natural showman who effortlessly embodied rock 'n' roll charisma.  On November 22nd 1997, Michael was found dead at the age of 37 in his hotel room in Sydney.  Circumstances surrounding his death raised many questions with the true story about his life & death still remaining a mystery to the world.

There has been very little written, produced or released in the Australian or international market about Michael Hutchence since his untimely death.  Michael Hutchence's Trust owns and controls significant assets that celebrate his life, death and work.  The unique opportunity exists to restore, preserve and celebrate his legacy.

The new partnership will expand these assets through multi platform content projects.  They will include a Documentary Film, Feature Film, release of his solo music, international photo exhibition, book and ancillary properties.  We are now working on creative, finance, film studio, network and label partners to develop the first of these official projects.

"He was such a gifted performer and songwriter.  It is an honor to be working with his estate." – Jim Gosnell, President and CEO of APA

"I am inspired and humbled to honor the Michael Hutchence legacy.  He was a unique and unrivalled talent whose loving soul touched all who knew him.  We were blessed to have Michael in this world.  He is forever missed and loved." – Martha Troup

About APA:  An industry leader in the field of talent and literary representation for nearly fifty years, APA represents many of today's most talented artists in all areas of the entertainment industry, with principal offices in Beverly Hills, New York and Nashville.

About Martha Troup:  Worldwide Manager / TV Producer / Film & Television Music Supervisor

"I know all's fair in love and war but when you go off and try and be by yourself and it ends up on the front page of the press it's frightening, knowing your life is under such scrutiny." – Michael Hutchence

‘Poster George’ Expo features Michael Hutchence era INXS items at Adelaide’s Festival Theatre!

February 10th, 2011

309.jpg

Michael Hutchence era INXS posters and backstage passes are on display at the 'Poster George' exhibition at the Festival Theatre in Adelaide!

George Jankovic has worked with most major rocks stars in the world. Come and see his unique collection of street art which represents the best live entertainment presented in Adelaide in the last 30+ years, in the Performing Arts Collection’s latest exhibition Poster George.

314.jpg

On display until 7th March, 2011 in the Festival Theatre Foyer, the Poster George exhibition tracks George Jankovic’s incredible career, which started back in 1978 with David Bowie. Unemployed at the time, George picked up work promoting the Bowie tour – plastering derelict fences and demolition sites with Bowie posters in the middle of the night. Now, Poster George (as he is infamously known) works as driver and runner for rock stars such as Lady Gaga, Metallica, Robbie Williams, Pink, U2, Cher, Kylie, Madonna and most international acts visiting Adelaide. In his words he is "some sort of weird valet… we take care of them, whatever they need – we’ll source it". But he doesn’t work alone – he has a handpicked crew who help out with any request, no matter how unusual.

Over time, pasting became a full time job for Poster George. With his crew he worked the nights putting up theatrical and music posters in prime roadside spots that were under his control. The work was illegal and Poster George has been stung 32 times. Through this work, Poster George made all the right contacts and after working the Pink Floyd gig in 1988, he gained the trust of the agents and tour managers, and soon had a monopoly on the driving and running work in Adelaide.

 311.jpg

Incredibly, George has kept a copy of every poster he has ever put up. The pile of posters is 6 metres high and hundreds of crew tags and makeshift tour paraphernalia like Pink’s dressing room door label spill out of biscuit tins, shoe boxes and drawers. He still goes out today with brush, bucket and crate in hand sticking up posters, but now negotiates with building owners first. He has been heard to say more than once "it’s the silliest job I’ve ever had".

310.jpg

Exhibition Coordinator Helen Trepa says, "The Poster George exhibition is about a man with an extraordinary job and his handpicked crew, with never seen before snapshots and anecdotes about mega rock stars plus George’s own collection of street posters, crew tags and souvenired tour ephemera like Bob Dylan’s cigarette packet. His wife Kerry has photographed hundreds of George’s posters into a stunning montage. The exhibition will give you an idea of what a "normal" week’s work is like for Poster George and his crew."
