‘Summer XS’ Wembley Stadium – 19 years ago today!

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

wembleyticket.jpg

It was July 13th, 1991 that Michael Hutchence with INXS performed a milestone concert in their career, becoming the only Australian band to sell out London's old Wembley Stadium in front of 72,000 fans.

The concert was captured on video and was later re-mastered on DVD in 2003 with bonus features.  During the original taping the film in the cameras all ran out during the filming of 'Lately' so unfortunately that had to be left out, but on the DVD we combined the sound recording from Wembley Stadium with footage of Michael Hutchence as a tribute to him.

Michael and the band put in a top performance on the day, in what will always be remembered as one of INXS's greatest performances captured on film.  Get out your DVD's today and re-live this classic concert on the 19th anniversary!

Oz For Africa was held on the 13th July 1985 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.  It was Australia's contribution to Live Aid to raise money for famine relief in Africa.  The concert feaured 17 bands who helped raise $10 million through Australia.

The concert began twelve hours before the Wembley Stadium, London concert, so the Australian concert was actually the first Live Aid concert held.

The four-hour concert was broadcast around Australia, with some INXS songs also broadcast overseas.

Michael Hutchence with INXS performed 5 songs, choosing to preview some new songs from their upcoming album 'Listen Like Thieves'.  The 5 songs they performed at Oz For Africa were 'Original Sin', 'Listen Like Thieves', 'Kiss The Dirt', 'What You Need' and 'Don't Change'.

In 2004, 2 of the tracks ('What You Need' & 'Dont Change') were included on the Live Aid 4-DVD box set.
